I visited Picton Golf & Country Club last week to talk to the folks in the pro shop and to have a bite to eat at one of my favourites, The View Restaurant.
2024 is a special year for Picton Golf & Country Club. They are celebrating their twenty-fifth anniversary of their expansion from a nine-hole course to a full eighteen-hole golf course.
I took a golf cart and toured around some of the holes and, I must say, I sure wished I had my golf clubs with me. The golf course was screaming, Play Me!
No Round of Golf is Complete Without Some Sort of Nourishment
One of my favourite features of the Picton Golf Course is the food & beverage shack at the turn, AKA the Halfway Hut. There are always hotdogs and hamburgers on the BBQ, and the aroma does a little screaming itself. It screams, Eat Me!
Jorja was working at the Halfway Hut on the day of my visit. I complimented her on her Toronto Maple Leaf's t-shirt.
Jorja laughed and said some loved it and others hated it. Go figure, eh.
I was very tempted to order a hotdog but refrained as I was planning to eat at The View Restaurant after my mini tour of the course.
Top Prince Edward County Golf Course Steeped in History
The whole Prince Edward County region is full of history and its top golf course, Picton Golf & Country Club, is no exception.
Established in 1907 as a nine-hole golf course and expanded to an eighteen-hole course in 1999, the Picton Golf & Country Club is the only golf course in our region that is member-owned and operated under the leadership of a Board of Directors.
During my visit, I had the opportunity to chat with the Board's Chair, Robert Suite, on the patio of The View Restaurant. Robert told me that they have a very solid membership base that keeps the tee sheet busy but golfers visiting the area are welcome anytime.
Robert said that Picton Golf & Country Club is in the best shape it's been in over ten years.
The main reason for the fantastic course conditions can be attributed to Picton Golf's new course superintendent, Brad Sizer, who came on board at the beginning of the 2024 golf season. Brad brings over 20 years of experience in golf course maintenance at both Trillium Wood Golf Club and Roundel Glen Golf Club.
The weather has also been providing enough rain to keep the fairways and greens in excellent playing condition.
Touring around Picton Golf & Country Club reminded me of how much I love to play this course. I usually play it at least once or twice a year, more if I can swing it. (get the pun?)
The course is a little hilly in spots but very walkable. There are lots of water hazards and some of the rough is very thick. If you are directionally challenged (as am I), bring lots of balls.
Two Great Places to Stay in Prince Edward County
If you are planning a visit to golf Prince Edward County at Picton Golf & Country Club, here are two places that I know very well and highly recommend as great places to stay in The County. They are also large enough to handle most golf getaways and can provide wine, beer, or cider tours for those non-golfers.
The Picton Harbour Inn is located in the centre of the town of Picton.
Walking distance to downtown restaurants, bars, and shops.
Home of Lighthouse Restaurant, best breakfast in Prince Edward County.
Nice Clean Rooms, overlooking Picton Harbour.

The Waring House is located at the west end of the town of Picton (at the traffic circle).
Very nice pub/bar with musical entertainment on site called The Barley Room Pub. (if you do eat there, get their homemade coconut cream pie, it is insanely delicious)
Each room personally decorated by the owner.
Lunch and Dinner also available at on-site restaurant, Amelia's Garden.
Wine and golf tours can be arranged.
Short drive to Sandbanks Provincial Park beaches.
Cookery School on site for those Hungry Golfer food lovers.
