Good golf. Good food. No pressure.
About The Hungry Golfer
The Hungry Golfer began the same way most enjoyable things do, by accident.
It grew out of many rounds of golf, a solid appetite, and an appreciation for the courses and characters that make the game worth playing.
I’m Richard Barrett, a retired recreational golfer, a Belleville native, and someone with a long background in tourism in this region. I believe golf is about more than swing thoughts and scorecards. It’s about where you play, who you play with, and where to get great food after a round.
What The Hungry Golfer Is (and isn’t)
The Hungry Golfer is for recreational golfers.
The kind who:
- Play for enjoyment and exercise
- Appreciate a good course and a good meal
- Like discovering local gems—courses, eateries, and experiences
- Don’t take themselves (or golf) too seriously
This is not a site chasing the latest swing gadget, tour gossip, or miracle fixes for your slice. There are plenty of places for that elsewhere.
Here, the focus is on:
- Local golf courses
- Golf-related stories
- Hungry Golfer Approved gear, accessories, apparel, and golf-themed gifts
- Tasty food and drink that pair nicely with a day on the course
Why You Can Trust What You Read (and Buy) Here
Before starting The Hungry Golfer as a retirement project, I spent 14 years running a travel and tour business in Prince Edward County, helping visitors figure out where to stay, where to eat, and how to make the most of their time.
I know the Bay of Quinte and Prince Edward County golf and tourism scene very well.
I’ve played the courses, talked with many of the owners, eaten the meals, and toured the accommodations I write about.
If it’s here, it’s because I’ve played it, worn it, eaten it, or would happily gift it to a friend.
Think of The Hungry Golfer as:
- Part local golf guide
- Part storyteller
- Part general store for golfers

Stay Safe, Stay Well, and Have Fun
Happy Golfing Everyone,
