The Joy of Scramble Golf: Why It’s Perfect for Events and Casual Rounds of Golf Here in the Bay of Quinte Region

Why the Scramble Format Might Be Your New Favorite Way to Play Golf
Golf is often seen as a game of precision, patience, and individual effort. While traditional stroke play challenges personal skills, the scramble format shifts the focus to teamwork, camaraderie, and enjoyment.
The scramble format has become a favorite for charity events, corporate outings, and casual rounds with friends. It’s a refreshing and accessible take on the sport, appealing to golfers of all skill levels.
I played the scramble format more in 2024 than ever before, and I must confess—those were some of my most memorable rounds of the season. They were tons of fun, relaxing, and virtually stress-free.
What Is a Scramble in Golf?
In a scramble, golfers play in teams of two to four. Each player tees off, and the team collectively chooses the best shot. From there, all team members hit their next shots from that spot. This process continues until the ball is holed.
The team’s score for each hole is based on how many strokes it took to complete the hole using those selected shots.
The beauty of this format is its emphasis on teamwork. Beginners can rely on more experienced teammates, and seasoned players can strategize to improve the team’s performance. It’s forgiving, fun, and brings a collaborative spirit to the game.
Introducing the THG Quinte Golf Tour
The Hungry Golfer is exploring the idea of launching the THG Quinte Golf Tour in 2025—a recreational golf tour based entirely on the scramble format.
This tour would be designed specifically for male and female golfers aged 55 and older, offering a mix of friendly competition, fun, and community spirit. It would take place at different courses in and around the Bay of Quinte and Prince Edward County.
More than just another golf event, the tour would showcase the region’s rich culture by featuring post-round tastings from local food and beverage producers.
Imagine finishing your round with local wines, ciders, or craft beers—paired with some delicious regional foods. Add exciting prizes, and you’ve got a recipe for an unforgettable day.
