Six Critically Important Off-Season Golf Tips

Guaranteed to Prepare You for the Best Golf Season… Ever… Perhaps
I wanted to share these important tips because I know that many of us golfers are feeling a bit like a beached whale after indulging in too much food and one too many holiday sweets.
Not to worry, now that the calendar has flipped, we can focus our attention on preparations for the 2026 golf season. I’m talking about serious preparations. The kind that can make or break your game this year.
Here are six time-tested off-season strategies that golfers return to year after year… for reasons that, to this day, remain a mystery.
1. Whatever You Do, Don’t Walk 10,000 Steps a Day
Let’s think this out a bit. Once golf returns in the spring, there will be perfectly good golf carts ready to transport you from hole to hole. So why waste time and energy walking all winter? Save your legs. Preserve your joints. You will appreciate it when you start the new golf season fully rested and ready to go. Perhaps.
2. Avoid Unnecessary Stretching
The off-season is about rest, not readiness. Stretching suggests commitment, and commitment leads to expectations. Let your body fully embrace the winter break so you can fully commit to your favourite recliner. Don’t worry, your first swing of the season should be just fine. Perhaps.
3. Buy New Gear Instead of Practicing
Why waste time at an indoor range or simulator when the real problem is obviously your equipment? With AI-designed faces, expanded sweet spots, and forgiveness levels increasing each year, new clubs are clearly the fastest route to greatness. Perhaps.
4. Dedicate an Hour a Day to Watching Golf Tip Videos
The off-season is perfect for improvement, specifically the kind that happens on a screen. Watch at least one hour of golf tip videos daily. Mix in a good combination of swing mechanics, short-game fixes, and plenty of content on the mental game. Absorb it all. Feel smarter. Feel prepared. You will do very well this season. Perhaps.
5. Ignore Your Short Game
Putting and chipping are optional skills, best left to the pros. And please, don’t waste time rolling putts across the carpet in your rec room. That provides zero useful feedback. Plus, all that bending over isn’t doing your back any favours. Get back into that comfy recliner and watch a video on Putting Tips, or something. That should pay off once the season starts. Perhaps.
6. Ignore Off-Season Eating Habits Altogether
The off-season is short. What’s the worst that could happen? Skipping breakfast, eating comfort food whenever you want, and questionable hydration contribute to decreased energy levels. Not to worry, think of yourself as a bear in hibernation. Spring will come soon, leaving you plenty of time to prep for what you hope will be your best golf season ever. This approach has worked flawlessly in other years; it may work out just fine for the 2026 season. Perhaps.
I hope that these useful tips will help you have the best golf season ever.
Of course, doing the opposite of all this wouldn’t hurt either. But where’s the fun in that?
Happy 2026, everyone, and happy golfing.
