Real Golfers Love Blue Cheese

I Apologize if This Story Makes You a Little Hungry

I love blue cheese almost as much as I love golf. My darling wife, whom I love even more than golf or blue cheese (she reads these stories), cannot stand the smell or taste of this unique cheese.

The Penicillium mold creates beautiful blue veins throughout the cheese, giving it a bold and tangy taste. Common types of blue cheese include Roquefort, Gorgonzola, and Stilton. It isn’t just a treat for the taste buds; it also packs some surprising health benefits.

Blue Cheese Can Help Your Golf Game

Isn’t it great when something you love is not only delicious but also beneficial? Our favourite indulgences usually come with a catch, a bit of a downer in terms of health. Blue cheese, consumed in moderation, breaks that trend, leaving you with nothing more than a hint of bad breath as its only minor drawback.

Rich in Calcium: Good news for golfers aiming for strong bones and teeth. You will be able to give your playing partners a big toothy smile next time you drain that birdie putt.

High in Protein: Golfers need their protein, right? Blue cheese delivers a decent protein punch to help with muscle repair.

Probiotics Power: Fermented foods like blue cheese can be a friend to your gut health. Probiotics help with digestion. Does that mean we can eat even more now that we can digest foods more efficiently? I think so.

Vitamin B12 Source: Essential for energy metabolism and red blood cell formation. Blue cheese contributes to your B12 intake.

Antioxidant Benefits: Blue cheese contains antioxidants that help combat free radicals. This helps keep you healthy so you can play more golf, which, in turn, makes you happier.

Now that we have determined that eating blue cheese can make you a better golfer, let’s see what foods pair the best with a few chunks of that rebellious rockstar of the cheese world.

Six Foods That Scream Blue Cheese

BBQ Steak: Throw a few chunks of blue cheese on your steak a few minutes before you take it off the grill. It will bring that steak to a whole new level.

Burger: Beef or Chicken: Same deal here as with the steak. Cover your beef or chicken patty with blue cheese near the end of the cooking process. Oh man, I can taste it now.

Sandwich Wraps: I make wraps for my golf lunches. They are so easy to put together. My favourite, by far, is my BBQ Ribeye Steak & Blue Cheese Wrap. Add a little garlic spread, chopped onion, and diced tomato. They are so good. When you don’t have leftover ribeye steak available, roast beef is a great substitute.

Pizza: There is nothing like a freshly made pizza, cooked right before your eyes in a wood-fired pizza oven. Add a little too much blue cheese and garlic to that pizza, and you have a very tasty post-round meal.

Whenever I play at Trillium Wood Golf Club, I always look forward to one of their wood-fired pizzas on the patio overlooking No. 18 green after our round. It is fantastic!

Salad: Nothing better than a Cob Salad with chunks of blue cheese. Whenever I go to our cottage in Wellington, I try and visit North Docks restaurant to enjoy one of their famous Cob Salads. They are fantastic.

Pasta with Cream Sauce: Toss some blue cheese into a creamy pasta sauce for a rich flavor. Pair it with a nice dry red wine and enjoy a wonderful meal.

I hope you enjoy these delectable meals featuring the tantalizing flavours of blue cheese.
